Reading Time: 7 minutes

As an online personal trainer, the most important thing is your clients. Without them, you have no business, no revenue, and nothing to do. Getting and keeping clients is the most crucial thing in running a successful online fitness business, but it’s also the most challenging part, at least for most online coaches.

So how do you get more clients? Luckily, there are several great ways to get clients to your online fitness business. To help you get started getting clients, we’ve listed our 11 absolute best tips here that, without a doubt, will help you get more clients.

12 tips to get online fitness clients

Are you ready to take your online fitness business to the next level? Follow these 11 tips and experience how your number of clients will increase significantly.

1 . Start local

Everyone has to start somewhere, and you might as well make it as easy as possible for you to get the first clients. We highly recommend that you start by exploring your local community and network. In your local community and network, you’re probably already a well-known name, and you probably also have an idea of who you should approach and how to approach them.

Even though you can’t rely on your local community and acquaintances forever, it’s an excellent way to get started. Especially since the first clients are always the hardest to get, you can also approach friends and family if you know they might be interested in your service. If you give them some kind of “friends & family discount,” they’ll get cheap coaching, and you’ll get experience and a great start. Win-win.

2. Online presence

The next step is to create your online presence. Since you’re offering your service online, it’s crucial that you also have a strong online presence. Now, there are many ways to get a strong online presence. There’s your own business website (A MUST HAVE), listings, and social media.

First should probably be creating your website, where you display your talents, qualifications, key selling points, prices, etc. Next, make sure to have some kind of contact formula or “Book meeting” button. A potential client should never have to search for a way to contact you!

It’s also a great idea to list your business in different online directories, such as:

  • Google Business
  • Bing Places
  • Yahoo Small Business
  • Spoke
  • Tripadvisor
  • Yelp
  • Hotfrog
  • Foursquare
  • The Yellow Pages

If you have other local listings available, make sure to list your business there too.

3. Social Media

Social Media is one of the best and cheapest ways to get clients and raise awareness. Some studies have shown that around 4 billion people on earth use social media; the potential is unlimited.

While Facebook is an excellent platform for many things and is leading in terms of the number of people on it, Facebook should, for most trainers, not be their key focus point. You should, of course, make a business profile and post something now and then, but you’ll probably find out that Instagram is by far the best social media platform to promote an online fitness business.

As an online fitness coach, you can make eye-catching and aesthetic content that will make your online business boom. Make sure to base your content strategy on delivering learnings, tips, and info. No one’s going to stop at your profile or content if you’re doing some kind of sales pitch. Instead, use the platform to showcase your extensive knowledge and great results. If the potential clients see that you’re skilled and competent, they’ll choose you over the sales pitcher every time.

4. “Call to action”

Now, let’s pretend that you’ve created a strong online presence and your social media is booming with followers, views, and interaction. The trick now is to have a way to convert potential clients into leads. In order to do so, you need to set up some kind of Call to Action button on your social media, website, etc.

The best way to do this is to link into a booking system, where the potential client can schedule an intro session. You can also let them sign up for a newsletter or allow them to contact them if they provide their phone number.

There are several ways of doing this; the most important thing to remember is that all your potential clients should have an easy and quick way to get in touch with your business. So remember to put the link or button into all your social media profiles, and do it with some kind of eye-catching emoji, so you simply can’t miss it.

5. Showcase successes

Some of the best ways to convince potential clients to choose you over the competition are to show them that you can help them reach their goals. And how do you do that? By showcasing how you’ve done it before.

If you’re good at showcasing your clients’ success stories on social media and your website, potential clients will not only feel safe and comfortable working with you, but they’ll also feel that they have made a well-informed decision.

Remember to ask all your clients for ratings, so everyone can see how good your services are.

6. Referrals

Happy clients are not only a way to keep a steady revenue; they can also be an excellent way to get even more clients. If your clients are happy with the service and products you’re providing, they’ll have no problem referring you to their network. This is some of the best ways to get clients because it takes very little effort on your part, and the potential clients will already have a very positive mindset about your business.

You can also team up with other health professionals, such as physiotherapists and weight loss surgery clinics, where they’ll recommend you and vice versa.

7. The Freemium Model

Many tech companies are based on a freemium model, where you get some of the services for free, and some of it you’ll have to buy. DropBox is an excellent example of this. So when you’re offering online fitness coaching and services online, you should consider giving some kind of free service. It doesn’t have to be anything wild; it could just be free nutritional advice, free recipes, examples of workout plans, etc.

When you give something away for free, the potential clients can get acquainted with your business and later be a client if they’re happy with the value you have provided so far.

8. Listings

A quick and easy way to get more online fitness clients is to join online training directory listings. Some of these are free, and some cost a little. Either way, these lists can be a very easy way to get exposure and clients.

You can easily find a bunch of these if you just search for “online training directory listings” and sign up for those you find relevant.

9. Giveaways

You’ve probably seen influencers and businesses do giveaways for products. They do this to get a lot of interaction and brand awareness because so many people sign up for things if they have a chance of winning something.

As an online fitness coach, you too can do this. Do a giveaway where you give free sessions and coaching for some months to the happy winner. In return, you’ll get a lot of exposure, and people have found out what services you can provide.

When doing this, you have to remember a few things:

  • Set a clear start and end date
  • Describe clear instructions on participating in the contest; this is often done by commenting, tagging a friend, or sharing the post.
  • Describe how the winner will be contacted
  • Describe the prize extensively; What’s included, duration, etc.

10. Collab with other trainers

Some coaches actually get client leads that they don’t want or can’t handle. Even though it’s not seen very often, some coaches actually don’t have the capacity to take in all the leads they get. You could try to do collabs with other trainers, where you refer clients to each other.

You can also do this in terms of what your niche is. So, for example, if you’re all about weight loss and the other trainer specializes in gaining muscle, you can refer clients to each other when you get leads that don’t fit your skills and specialty.

11. Seek advice & network

It’s always a great idea to share ideas and learnings with other health professionals. You can share ideas and tricks to get more clients when you talk to other online coaches. There might be something you’ve missed out on, and you too may have some knowledge others can benefit from.

12. Keep your current clients

Our last piece of advice is not about what you can do to get more clients but the value of keeping the clients you already have. Getting new clients often costs money and time; therefore, you should always do your very best to keep the clients you have.
